Prime Minister Honours Daniel Tupou on Historic 300th NRL Milestone

The Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Tonga, Lord Fakafanua, has congratulated Tonga Rugby League star Daniel Tupou on reaching the milestone of 300 National Rugby League (NRL) appearances for the Sydney Roosters, describing the achievement as a proud moment for Tonga.

Lord Fakafanua attended the Sydney Roosters’ match against the Parramatta Eels, where Tupou celebrated his 300th NRL game in spectacular fashion by scoring a hat-trick in front of family, friends, teammates, and supporters.

In a statement, the Prime Minister said the milestone reflected Tupou’s unwavering commitment, professionalism, and consistency throughout a distinguished NRL career spanning 15 seasons.

Speaking on behalf of the Government and people of Tonga, Lord Fakafanua said Tupou’s achievement deserved the nation’s highest recognition. He said the veteran winger had represented Tonga with distinction and had become a role model for young Tongans through both his outstanding performances on the field and his humility and character away from the game.

The Prime Minister said Daniel Tupou’s success extended beyond rugby league, noting that his dedication, discipline, and pride in his Tongan heritage had inspired many aspiring athletes both in Tonga and among Tongan communities overseas.

The Government of Tonga joined Tupou’s family, teammates, supporters, the Sydney Roosters organisation, and the wider rugby league community in celebrating one of the sport’s most significant career milestones and congratulated him on an extraordinary achievement.
