During the Prime Minister’s Press Conference in July 2026, reporter from 88.1FM The People’s Radio asked the Prime Minister as to whom amongst his Cabinet Ministers forged the signature of the Lessor on the sublease of NDRMO from Tonga Power Ltd. The 88.1FM reporter added that he will ask a second question after the first question is answered. The Prime Minister asked the reporter to ask his second question. The press conference progressed into the second question and other areas, with the first question still being unanswered.
Towards the end of the Press Conference, the Prime Minister made a comment about the sublease issue stating that the Tonga Power Ltd’s lease was in 2015 and the subleasing of NDRMO and the current government is working on correcting that sublease and its cancellation.
However, there is information that the sublease was carried out by the current government, thus bringing about the following question from the public to the Prime Minister as follows:
Who amongst you (the current Cabinet) forged the signature of the Lessor in the NDRMO’s sublease from Tonga Power Ltd’s lease?
What was the date, time, month and year that your government conducted this for the Lessor?
How much is due to be paid by Tonga Power LTd to ANZ Bank, after the registration of the deed and the extension of the varioation of mortgage Book 6, Folio 10610 C to increasing the amount to $58,145,678.53?
When was the subleasing of the 2 acres to NDRMO was cancelled?
Why was the sublease of NDRMO cancelled?
If the current Cabinet is saying that there was nothing wrong nor unlawful in the sublease of NDRMO, why was it cancelled?
Who was the Minister of Lands or the Acting Minister of Lands that submitted the sublease paper to Cabinet and who signed on that Cabinet paper?
How much was taken from the World Bank grant that was said is a gift to build the NDRMO building, while paying the Lessor $1.00 a year? And who was that money given to?
In the Tonga Power Ltd’s 2016 lease, was there a condition in that lease that stated that 2 acres is intended to be subleased to NDRMO?
When did you realize that the sublease of NDRMO was not right?
Who was the Lawyer that advised your government to forge the signature of the Lessor?
Forging of signature is a serious crime in the Kingdom of Tonga. The public shall await expectantly for answers to the above questions.
