Faith on Trial: Tokaikolo Church’s Legal Battles Over Leadership

The high-profile trial between the former Pastors and the Current President and General Secretary of the Tokaikolo Church began on Tuesday, June 16, 2026.

The Defendant’s charge is that it is unconstitutional and also illegal for them to continue as the general president and general secretary of the church.

The prosecution expects to call 3 witnesses, and 10 witnesses are expected to be called by the defendant.

The Prosecutor is Rev Mesake Mapapalangi from Tonga but is currently the pastor of the church in Australia. The Prosecutor’s legal representative is Sifa Tu’utafaiva. The Defendants are the Current President, Rev. Saia Fepuiaki Tatafu and the Current General Secretary, Rev Siaosi Pita Kava. The defendant’s legal representative is Clive Edwards. The judge in this case is Acting Chief Justice – Justice Elisapeti Langi.
