NUKU’ALOFA, TONGATAPU- The Ministry of Health, in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), has marked a significant milestone in Tonga’s healthcare sector with the official launch of several strategic health policies and the handover of essential medical equipment during a joint Launch and Handover Ceremony.
The event underscores the ongoing collaboration between the Ministry of Health and UNFPA to strengthen Tonga’s health system and improve the quality and accessibility of healthcare services across the Kingdom.
Four key health documents were officially launched during the ceremony:
- Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH) Policy
- Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response (MPDSR) Guidelines
- Adolescent and Youth Friendly Health Services (AYFHS) Guidelines
- Health Facility Readiness and Service Availability (HFRSA) Report
In addition to the launch of these strategic documents, UNFPA officially handed over essential medical equipment to the Ministry of Health. The equipment is expected to further strengthen the country’s healthcare capacity and support frontline health professionals in delivering quality services to communities throughout Tonga.
The Ministry of Health acknowledged that the launch of these policies and guidelines, together with the provision of medical equipment, represents an important step towards improving maternal, newborn, child, adolescent, and reproductive health services, while promoting equitable access to quality healthcare for all Tongans.
The Ministry also expressed its sincere appreciation to UNFPA, development partners, distinguished guests, and all stakeholders whose continued support and collaboration made the initiative possible.
The ceremony reaffirmed the shared commitment of the Ministry of Health and UNFPA to building a stronger, more resilient health system and achieving better health outcomes for the people of Tonga.
