Prisoner On Loose- Second time within past month.

88.1 FM RADIO EXCLUSIVE-

At 7.30 AM Friday morning 10th July 2026, the People’s Radio 88.1 FM received an exclusive news report from the island of Haapai regarding a prisoner named, Vili Moa Afu who once again has escaped His Majesty’s Prisons at Fale’one in Ha’apai.

Reportedly, the escaped prisoner is a middle aged male of small built 5.3 ft tall and around 40- 45 years old. He is also known by the name “Habana” with island patterned tattoos. There are considerations that this escape was premeditated as a local fishing boat is also missing and is suspected to have been stolen by the prisoner on loose. The owner of the boat confirmed that there is not much gas in the boat, meaning that he must not have escaped far.

There are community concerns regarding safety of the community as such escapees are prone to theft and damaging of goods. It is said that route of escape was made from the prisoner’s bedroom in which he had created a hole in the wall to escape. This is his second escape within the past month, in which the police had appealed for the public’s assistance when he first escaped on 26 June 2026.

Skepticism evolves around the fact that there are an estimated total number of 11 inmates and 2 jailors at His Majesty’s Prison, Faleone, Haapai. Rising questions is whether there is a need to increase the number of jailors or upgrading fencing to enhance security.
