Nuku’alofa, Tonga — The United Kingdom, together with other development partners, has provided TOP$100,500 (£30,000) to Tonga through the Pacific Catastrophe Risk Insurance Company (PCRIC) to strengthen the country’s preparedness for climate-related impacts.
The payout, made on 21 August, will support communities in ‘Eua and Tongatapu as they prepare for the potential impacts of El Niño, strengthening community-level resilience and disaster preparedness.
This marks the fourth payout Tonga has received through PCRIC, bringing the total support provided to Tonga to approximately TOP$350,000 (£110,000).
The funding is aimed at helping communities better anticipate, prepare for, respond to and recover from droughts and other climate-related disasters, strengthening Tonga’s ability to withstand future climate shocks.
