NAKOLO, Tonga — Tonga could soon benefit from innovative American road-building technology following a visit by senior representatives from U.S. infrastructure company Terra Pave to Nakolo and Tatakamotonga, where they explored opportunities to support the Kingdom’s future infrastructure development.
The visit highlighted the growing partnership between Tonga and the United States, with discussions focusing on sustainable solutions that can strengthen the country’s road network, reduce maintenance costs, and improve long-term resilience.
During their visit, Terra Pave’s regional directors inspected local road conditions and met with Tongan government partners to discuss the potential use of the company’s advanced road stabilisation technology. Designed to meet the unique challenges faced by island nations, the technology aims to reduce dust, lower construction and maintenance costs, and significantly extend the lifespan of roads.
If adopted, the technology could provide a practical and environmentally sustainable solution for communities across Tonga by improving road durability while reducing the financial burden associated with frequent repairs.
The visit also reinforced the strong and expanding relationship between Tonga and the United States, with both countries continuing to explore opportunities for collaboration in infrastructure development, innovation, and sustainable economic growth.
In a statement following the visit, the U.S. Embassy in Nuku’alofa thanked its Tongan counterparts for their continued partnership.
